Troops foil ISWAP ambush, recover weapons and supplies in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in North East Nigeria have successfully repelled an ambush by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents near Papa 7 in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Sources told Zagazola that the indicated that at about 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 16, troops of the 152 Task Force Battalion, in conjunction with Vigilante Forces, engaged insurgents attempting to move from the CM to NG axis.

The sources said the troops had laid in wait and sprung the ambush, forcing the insurgents to withdraw in disarray under enfilade fire. Following the encounter, the troops recovered a Honda motorcycle, three bicycles, 84 cans of Amasco engine oil, two sacks of fresh Quick juice, and four gallons of groundnut oil.
The sources added that a limited exploitation of the area was conducted, while a full search would be carried out once troops occupy picquet positions.
The sources confirmed that troops continue to maintain an aggressive posture, with heightened surveillance and vigilance to deny insurgents freedom of action within the Area of Responsibility.
