Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued 11 passengers along the Igbayima–Pevikiya Road in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

Military sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on July 24, when troops of Sector 1, Operation WHIRL STROKE, deployed at Kyado, responded swiftly to reports of a kidnapping along the route.

According to the sources, the kidnappers fled into the surrounding bush on sighting the advancing troops, abandoning their victims and the vehicle in which they were travelling.

The troops immediately secured the area and rescued all 11 victims, who were confirmed to be passengers in the abandoned vehicle.

After ensuring that the area was safe and conducting preliminary checks, the troops released the victims to continue their journey.

Military sources said the prompt response by the troops prevented what could have resulted in another successful abduction along the corridor, adding that patrols have been intensified in the area to deter further criminal activities and reassure residents and road users.
