Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force and local hunters, have recovered 50 rustled cattle after foiling a cattle rustling operation in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 2:00 a.m. on July 25 following a distress report that cattle rustlers had stolen 50 cattle belonging to two Fulani herders grazing at Funle Village.
Acting swiftly on the information, troops of Sector 9, Operation PEACE, alongside police personnel and members of a local hunters’ group, mobilised to the area and made contact with the rustlers.
On sighting the security forces, the suspects abandoned the stolen cattle and fled into the surrounding bush to evade arrest.
The recovered livestock were secured by the troops and taken into custody pending identification and handover to their rightful owners.
Military sources said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, adding that the operation forms part of sustained efforts to curb cattle rustling and other criminal activities across Plateau State.
