Troops of the Nigerian Army have responded to intelligence on suspected terrorist movement in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident
occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on May 30, when troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Mayanchi received information from local vigilantes about the movement of suspected terrorists toward Garagi village.
According to the sources, troops of 1 Brigade immediately conducted a fighting patrol to the general area in a bid to intercept the suspects.
The sources said the suspected terrorists, however, fled into a nearby forest before contact could be established with the advancing troops.
The troops reportedly pursued the fleeing suspects along withdrawal routes but were unable to make contact due to difficult terrain and forest cover.
Security personnel have since continued patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent regrouping and further criminal activity.
Authorities said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorist elements freedom of movement and enhance security across vulnerable communities in Zamfara State.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
