Troops of the Joint Task Force – South South have intercepted four trucks conveying mining products suspected to be glass sand in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Security sources said the interception occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on March 14 during a snap check conducted by Section 4 of 2 Brigade OPDS at the Ama Friday junction.
According to the sources, the drivers of the vehicles failed to present the necessary documents to account for the mining products being transported.
The trucks and their drivers were moved to the headquarters of 2 Brigade for further investigation and verification of ownership and legality of the products.
Security sources said the operation is part of ongoing efforts by the JTF to curb illegal mining activities and enforce regulations on mineral exploitation across the South-South region.
Authorities warned that vehicles transporting mining products without proper documentation would be intercepted and subjected to thorough checks to prevent unlawful exploitation of natural resources
