Troops Investigate Farm Destruction, Recover 46 Cattle from Herder in Plateau

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have launched investigations into the destruction of farmlands belonging to four farmers in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The development occurred on Sunday, Aug. 9, following separate reports of farm destruction in Bindiand the Container general area of Riyom.
Sources said that the troops of Sector 6, OPEP, responded to a report of the destruction of farms belonging to Mr Kiyang Daliop and three other farmers at Bindi community.
On arrival at the location, the troops discovered that the destruction had occurred during the night.
The troops subsequently traced cattle footprints from the affected farmlands to the Bangai Fulani area, as part of efforts to establish those responsible for the incident.
Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the farm destruction is ongoing.
The troops have also contacted Fulani leaders in the area and requested their cooperation in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators for necessary action.
In a separate incident at about 4 p.m. on the same day, troops responded to another report of farm destruction in the Container general area of Riyom.
Upon arrival, the troops found 46 cattle grazing on the affected farmland. The animals reportedly fled after sighting the security personnel.
The troops subsequently moved the livestock to their location for an amicable settlement between the affected parties and to prevent further escalation of tensions.
The interventions form part of ongoing efforts by security forces to prevent disputes between farmers and herders from escalating into broader communal conflicts.
