Troops of 21 Battalion have intervened to contain a renewed cycle of violence following a suspected militia attack on Ochipu community in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Security sources said the troops responded at about 11:45 a.m. on May 9, 2026, after receiving intelligence on the attack. However, the assailants had reportedly fled before the arrival of security forces.

On arrival, troops confirmed that three locals had been killed in the incident.

Shortly after, at about 12:34 p.m. the same day, irate youths reportedly carried out a reprisal attack on a Hausa community in Dekina town, Dekina Local Government Area of the state.

During the reprisal attack, one person sustained injuries and was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.

Military sources said troops have since moved to dominate the general area, with intensified patrols and surveillance operations ongoing to prevent further escalation.

The security situation is said to be under close monitoring by relevant authorities.
