Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully detected and safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) planted near the exit gate of Gajiram town along the Maiduguri axis in Borno State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 9:09 p.m. on April 21 when the Explosive Ordnance Disposal/Route Clearance (EOD/RD) team attached to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gajiram discovered the device during routine scanning operations.
The sources said the device was immediately secured and safely detonated by the team in a controlled manner to prevent any harm to civilians or troops in the area.
Following the detonation, troops conducted further sweep and surveillance of the general area to ensure there were no additional threats.
They added that the security situation in Gajiram remains calm but unpredictable, with intensified patrols and monitoring ongoing along key access routes.
Military authorities said the swift response illustrates the vigilance and high level of preparedness of troops in countering explosive threats posed by insurgent elements in the theatre of operations.
