Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised a suspected notorious bandit and arrested an informant during a swift response to an attack in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 5:40 p.m. on March 29 when troops of 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base Dansabau responded to reports of bandit activity on the eastern flank of Dansabau village.
According to the sources, the troops engaged the attackers in a firefight and neutralised one of them, identified by locals as Abbas Nabula, a suspected member of a bandit group linked to a recent ambush along the Zango–Dansabau road.
“The suspect was known among locals as part of the group that had previously attacked troops in the area,” the source said.
The sources added that troops also apprehended one suspected informant during the operation.
Items recovered from the scene include some grains of millet, believed to be part of supplies used by the bandits.
They said the troops have continued to maintain dominance in the area through patrols aimed at preventing further attacks and dismantling criminal networks operating within the axis.
