Troops of Sector 7, Sub-Sector 71 of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued an elderly man from mob action following the killing of a farmer in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources said the troops responded to a distress call at about 6:10 p.m. on Monday over an attack on a farmer identified as Mr Dauda Umar, 57, at Mayir village in the area.
According to the sources, the victim was allegedly attacked and killed on his farm by a suspected Fulani herder.
“On arrival at the scene, troops discovered the corpse of the victim and immediately moved to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” the sources said.
The sources added that aggrieved youths in the community attempted to lynch the suspect’s father, identified as Dahiru Nuhu, before troops intervened and rescued him.
The rescued man has since been taken into custody pending the arrest of his son, who is currently at large.
Security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend the suspect and prevent possible reprisal attacks in the area.
The incident is the latest in a series of isolated attacks linked to lingering farmer-herder tensions in parts of Kaduna State.
