Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly neutralised several  suspected ISWAP terrorists during exploitation operations following an attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tungushe in Borno State.

Security sources disclosed that the terrorists launched an attack on the troops’ position in the early hours of May 22 but were repelled after a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The sources said troops subsequently carried out exploitation operations around the area at about 6:00 a.m., leading to the recovery of several weapons and combat items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

According to the sources, items recovered included one mobile phone, three AK-47 magazines, two hand grenades, five belts of PKT ammunition, one locally fabricated grenade, empty cases of PKT and 7.62mm ammunition, head warmers, slippers, clothes and fuel supplies.

Military sources estimated that at-least  15 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter based on blood trails, intensity of fire exchange and intelligence assessment from the operation area.

They further stated that troops morale remained high and combat readiness to sustain ongoing counterterrorism operations across the theatre
