Troops of the Nigerian military have repelled an ambush by suspected terrorists along the Zarh–Mubang axis in Hong, local government of Adamawa state, sources have said.
The incident occurred at about 5:35 p.m. on May 20 when troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical) responded to a distress call over a terrorist attack in Zarh and Mubang communities within Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to the sources, although the troops did not make contact with the attackers during the initial response, they were ambushed while returning along the Zarh–Mubang route.
The troops reportedly fought through the ambush and succeeded in breaking contact with the assailants.
However, one soldier was killed in action.
Security operations in the area have since been intensified to track down the fleeing terrorists and prevent further attacks in the general area.
