Troops Recover Abandoned AK-47, Rescue Cameroonian National Allegedly Abducted by Terrorists

MAIDUGURI — Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle and rescued a 63-year-old Cameroonian national allegedly abducted by terrorists in the Gwoza axis of Borno State.
The operation took place on Aug. 17 during separate activities by troops of 151 Task Force Battalion.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that at about 10:55 a.m., troops conducting a routine patrol around farmlands in Ngurusoye village discovered an AK-47 rifle buried in the ground.
The recovered rifle, bearing registration number NK-105320, was subsequently handed over to 21 Special Anti-Banditry Mobile Police Regiment (21 SAB) for safekeeping and further necessary action.
In a separate operation at about 2:15 p.m., troops rescued a Cameroonian citizen identified as Dubi Je Manma, 63, who was allegedly abducted by terrorists at Ashigashiya village, located between Gwoza and the Cameroon border.
The circumstances surrounding his abduction are being investigated.
The rescued man was handed over to 21 SAB for further investigation and necessary action.
The recovery of the weapon and rescue operation form part of sustained efforts by troops under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V to disrupt terrorist activities, protect vulnerable communities and secure border communities in the North East.
Security sources said the overall situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops continued to maintain satisfactory morale and operational readiness.
