Troops of 245 Battalion have recovered a locally fabricated firearm and a motorcycle following the escape of a suspected cultist in Cross River State.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 6:13 p.m. on April 15 at a checkpoint in Bashua community, Boki Local Government Area, when the suspect attempted to evade routine security checks.
According to the source, troops pursued the suspect after he failed to comply with inspection procedures, forcing him to abandon his motorcycle and flee into nearby terrain.
A subsequent search of the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated weapon and three cartridges concealed in a sack.
The recovered items have been taken into custody for further investigation.
