Troops of the 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have recovered a machine gun and ammunition after engaging suspected terrorists along the Anka–Gummi highway in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops responded at about 5:48 p.m. on July 25 to reports of terrorist activity along the Anka–Gummi Main Supply Route (MSR) at Kombo High Ground.

The sources said the troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to withdraw from the area.

During a search of the scene, the troops recovered one machine gun and 13 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

One soldier sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka for medical treatment.

The sources added that four tyres of Combat Support Service (CSS) military vehicles were damaged during the operation.

Security forces have since intensified clearance operations in the area to track down the fleeing terrorists and maintain security along the strategic highway.
