Troops deployed under the Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have recovered about 325 litres of suspected stolen Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, during an anti-illegal bunkering operation in Akwa Ibom State.

Security sources told Zagazola that the discovery was made at about 2:45 a.m. on Thursday at Ikot Akpan Ido Community in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state.

According to the sources, troops of the 6 Battalion, while conducting operations against crude oil theft and related economic sabotage, discovered several sacks containing the suspected stolen petroleum product.

The recovered product was estimated to be about 325 litres of AGO.

The sources said the suspected stolen diesel was subsequently handed over to the appropriate security and petroleum monitoring authorities for further investigation and necessary action.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illegal bunkering, crude oil theft, and other forms of economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region.
