Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military formation in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Security sources said the attack occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on March 19, when the terrorists advanced in large numbers towards the Forward Operating Base through the Chakawa axis, launching indirect fire with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades.
The troops of 144 Battalion mounted a strong defence and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the insurgents to retreat.
During follow-up exploitation, troops recovered one handheld radio, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two mobile handsets, two torch lights, and seven rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
One soldier sustained injuries in the encounter, while a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle tyre was damaged by rocket fire.
Military authorities said troops remain on high alert and continue to dominate the area to prevent further attacks.
