The troops of Sector 3 Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have repelled attacks by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Monguno, the northern part of Borno State.

It was gathered that the ISWAP fighters attacked the town with heavy weapons on the night of Friday April 7, 2023 in an attempt to penetrate the most populous northern town.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, that the troops successfully pushed back the attackers, after engaging them in a heavy gun battle.

Monguno is one out of the 27 local government areas of Borno state which  has a distance of about 137.8 kilometers North of Maiduguri.

The ISWAP terrorist group had previously launched a series of deadly attacks on the town  but were mostly unsuccessful.
