Troops rescue eight kidnapped victims, recover cows in Benue operation

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued eight kidnapped victims and recovered four cows during a swift response to a distress call in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

 

A military source told Zagazola hat the incident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on March 31 in Afia community, where suspected militia were reportedly operating.

 

The source said troops mobilised immediately after receiving the distress call and advanced to the scene, forcing the armed criminals to flee upon sighting the troops.

 

He added that the suspects abandoned eight kidnapped victims and four cows before escaping into surrounding areas.

 

According to him, the troops rescued the victims unhurt and reunited them with their families after preliminary checks, while the recovered cows are in military custody for further action.

 

The source said follow-up operations were ongoing to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their network in the area.

 

He reaffirmed the commitment of OPWS troops to sustain operations aimed at restoring peace and security in Benue State and neighbouring communities.
