Troops rescue kidnapped woman after gunfight with terrorists in Plateau

Troops of Sector 2, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have rescued a kidnapped woman following an encounter with suspected terrorists in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was conducted at about 4:35 p.m. on Sept. 10 after troops received information about the movement of terrorists alongside suspected kidnapped victims around Dogon Ruwa.
Military sources said the troops advanced along the reported axis and made contact with the suspects, who engaged them in a fierce firefight.
The terrorists were forced to withdraw in disarray following the troops’ superior firepower, allowing the soldiers to exploit the area.
During the operation, the troops rescued one of the kidnapped victims, identified as Mrs Hauwa Mohammed, who had been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
During preliminary debriefing, the rescued woman contacted her brother, Mallam Aliyu Mohammed, who confirmed that other kidnapped victims who escaped during the encounter had successfully returned home.
The rescued victim was subsequently handed over to her brother, while troops continued to search the surrounding bushes in an effort to track and apprehend the fleeing criminals.
Security forces have intensified operations across the area to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and rescue other victims who may still be in captivity.
