Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims in Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have rescued two persons abducted by suspected kidnappers in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the victims, identified as Mr Victor Ibikuzhu and Mrs Tongriang Dayok Salihu, were kidnapped at Kwang village on Monday night.
The sources said troops of Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, acting on a distress report, immediately mobilised to the area in conjunction with personnel of Keystone security outfit and launched a pursuit operation along routes suspected to be used by the kidnappers.
According to the sources, the security team subsequently established contact with the fleeing criminals, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The kidnappers were said to have abandoned the victims and escaped into nearby bushes following the superior firepower of the troops.
The two victims were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families shortly after the operation.
Security sources disclosed that troops expended 18 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the encounter.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, the sources added.
The latest rescue comes amid sustained security operations by Operation Enduring Peace aimed at tackling kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in Plateau and adjoining states.
