Troops Respond to Communal Clash in Benue, Pursue Fleeing Assailants

Troops under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have responded to a communal clash between Agbaka and Anyiase communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources said the troops, deployed at Ukpiam, were mobilised at about 12:10 p.m. on May 1 following reports of violence between the two communities.
The sources disclosed that on arrival at the scene, the troops observed that several houses had already been set ablaze by the attackers, who fled before security operatives could make contact.
According to the sources, the troops immediately pursued the assailants along their withdrawal route, but no arrests were made.
They added that security presence has been reinforced in the area to prevent further escalation, while efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack.
The sources noted that investigations into the incident are in progress as authorities work to restore normalcy in the affected communities.
