Two suspected local bandits have been arrested in connection with the killing of four persons in Mbamo Village, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the suspects, identified as Tersoo Mouanti and Shimangi Apeilu, were arrested on Saturday by tactical teams operating in the area. Both men are residents of Mbamo Village.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the June 7 killing of four individuals in the community. Security operatives believe the act was part of a broader pattern of localised violence linked to gang activity in the area.
In a related development, intelligence reports revealed that a group of armed men believed to be bandits were sighted near Mbayongo Village, allegedly plotting to launch another attack on Mbamo Community.
In response, combined teams comprising personnel from the 11 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Calabar, Area Command and Divisional Patrol Teams from Katsina-Ala, along with operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, were swiftly mobilised to the area.
The teams have since been strategically deployed to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.
Tension remains high in Katsina-Ala, a region that has witnessed repeated violence linked to armed groups in recent months.
