Two persons were killed when armed bandits attacked Dinawa village, a remote settlement under Wurno District of Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 18, when the bandits, reportedly in large numbers and armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the community and opened sporadic gunfire.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), upon receiving the distress call, immediately mobilised tactical teams alongside personnel from a nearby military Forward Operating Base (FOB) to the scene.

The security forces engaged the attackers in a gun duel that lasted for some time, eventually forcing the bandits to retreat and escape into a nearby forest.

However, two residents were shot dead during the attack.

The bodies of the victims were subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital, Wurno, for medical examination and autopsy.

Following the attack, joint security teams commenced a search of the surrounding bushes in an effort to track and apprehend the fleeing bandits.

The police also alerted neighbouring divisions to watch out for the suspects who might attempt to escape through their areas of jurisdiction.

Security forces have intensified surveillance and patrols around the affected communities as efforts continue to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
