Two killed, four injured in gun attack at Barkin-Ladi mining site – Police

The Plateau State Police Command says two persons were killed and four others injured in an attack by unknown gunmen at a farm near an illegal mining site in Taran, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
A source in the command said the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, when assailants opened fire on people at the site, which is owned by the Ban Community of Barkin-Ladi LGA.
He said information about the attack was received by the police at about 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
“On receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Barkin-Ladi immediately mobilised and led a team of policemen to the scene,” the sources said.
The sources added that the injured victims were rushed to Ntiang Clinic, Heipang, for medical attention, while the corpses of the two deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to the sources, investigation has commenced and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
The command assured residents of the area that it would not relent in its efforts to bring those responsible to justice and to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
