Assailants Kill Islamic Scholar in Kwara, Two Suspects Reportedly Neutralised

A renowned Islamic scholar has been killed by unidentified assailants in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 

Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 1:10 a.m. on May 30 at Ilesha-Baruba, where the assailants reportedly invaded the scholar’s residence and carried out the attack.

 

According to the sources, the motive of the attack had yet to be established at the time of filing this report.

 

Following the incident, local vigilantes in collaboration with residents pursued the fleeing assailants, during which two of them were reportedly neutralised.

 

Troops of 244 Battalion, alongside police operatives and vigilante groups, subsequently moved into the area and have since dominated the community through intensified patrols.

 

The sources said the combined security presence was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and forestalling any reprisal attacks.

 

Security agencies have commenced investigation into the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the attack.

 

Residents were urged to remain calm and continue to support security agencies with credible information to aid ongoing operations in the area.
