The Presidency of Chad has announced that a Defence and Security Forces base on Barkaram island, located west of Ngouboua in the Lac Province, was attacked on Sunday night, October 27, resulting in the tragic loss of around forty soldiers.
In response to the assault, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, who serves as Head of State and Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, visited the site early this morning to assess the situation, pay tribute to the fallen soldiers, offer support to the wounded, and raise the morale of the troops stationed in the area.
Following his visit, President Deby initiated Operation "Haskanite," a military campaign to pursue and eliminate the attackers. The operation aims to restore stability and ensure the security of the region through sustained efforts to track down the perpetrators.
The President has reassured the local population and the nation at large of his steadfast commitment to defending and securing Chad’s territory. This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the Lac Province, an area known for instability due to militant activity.
