Clash between villages leaves one dead, several injured in Zaki, Bauchi

Tensions escalated in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State following the killing of a commercial motorcyclist and retaliatory attacks between two villages, sources said.

 

Zagazola learnt that the  incident began on March 15 at about 8:30 a.m., when Saleh Ibrahim, also known as Saleh Bakarya, aged 35, of Sansan Village, was attacked while riding his motorcycle along Jamaaren Fulani–Sansan Village road. 

 

He was reportedly assaulted with a sharp object, suspected to be a cutlass, and his motorcycle was seized. Saleh was conveyed to General Hospital, Katagum, where he was pronounced dead, while his pillion passenger received treatment and was discharged.

 

In reprisal the following day, residents of Sansan Village attacked Jamaaren Fulani Village, setting several houses ablaze. During the clashes, one Yahaya Haruna, aged 35, was shot with a bow and arrow. The Fulani community reportedly retaliated by laying siege to Sansan Village, chasing residents, and burning houses.

 

Army troops and other security forces were deployed to restore calm, during which one police officer and one army personnel were injured. Both were taken to General Hospital, Katagum, for medical attention.

 

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, and investigations into the violent exchanges are ongoing.
