FCT police arrest notorious kidnapper linked to serial abductions in Kogi

Operatives of the Scorpion Squad of the FCT Police Command have arrested a notorious kidnap suspect, Haruna Suleiman, 40, in connection with multiple abductions and extortion of a Kogi-based businessman.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the arrest was effected on Aug. 3 at about 7:00 p.m. at Giri Junction in Gwagwalada, following sustained surveillance and digital intelligence operations.
Suleiman, a native of Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State but resident in Giri, Abuja, was linked to the repeated abduction of Alhaji Haruna Isiaku, 79, of Lokoja, Kogi State.
According to sources, the victim had been kidnapped several times between December 2023 and January 2025, and was forced to pay ransoms totaling ₦21 million across various incidents ₦2 million in 2023, ₦7 million and ₦5 million in 2024, and another ₦7 million in January 2025.
The suspects again contacted the victim on Aug. 1, 2025, demanding an additional ₦10 million and threatening another abduction.
Acting on the report, the police advised the victim to cooperate with the gang, who initially requested that the ransom be dropped off at Obajana, Kogi State. However, the victim convinced them to provide an account number for a digital transfer.
The suspects subsequently sent a POS account number, which was used by police to trace and arrest Suleiman.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed the identities of other members of the kidnap syndicate. Investigation is ongoing.
