A gas tanker explosion at the AYM Shafa Gas Station in Life Camp area of Abuja injured three persons and damaged property on Wednesday.

Police sources said the incident occurred at about 1:05 p.m. on June 18 while the tanker was discharging gas at the station.

“During the discharge process, the tanker suddenly caught fire and exploded, damaging the vehicle and a nearby building. Upon receiving the distress call, police patrol teams were swiftly deployed to the scene,” the sources said.

The area was immediately cordoned off and traffic diverted to ensure public safety.

The sources added that personnel from the Federal Fire Service and Julius Berger Company were also contacted, and through their combined efforts alongside the police and community volunteers, the fire was successfully extinguished and prevented from escalating.

“No life was lost, but three persons sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” said the sources.

The sources noted that the exact cause of the fire and the value of the properties destroyed were yet to be determined, adding that investigations were ongoing.

The sources commended the prompt response of emergency services and urged residents to remain calm and adhere to safety protocols around flammable substances.
