One Berom man was killed and while another Fulani man injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire around the Rentis axis of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2026, around the Kafi Abu–Kurra Falls road, where troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41, Gashish, responded to reports of sporadic gunfire.
The troops’ quick intervention forced the gunmen to flee the area.
During an exploitation of the location, the troops discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Pam Philip Alamba, a Berom from Nghar Yelwa village.
Another victim, identified as Mr. Ahmadu Gadido, a Fulani from Exland village, was found with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Gadido was evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, for medical treatment, while the remains of Alamba were deposited at a morgue.
Security forces have commenced a manhunt for the fleeing assailants as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
A new dimension appears to be emerging in the prolonged security crisis in Plateau State, with reports of armed gunmen carrying out attacks along roads and allegedly targeting Fulani travellers.
Security sources and local accounts indicate that the attacks, some of which have occurred along rural roads and isolated routes, are raising concerns that the conflict may be evolving beyond attacks on communities and farms into deliberate attempts to inflict casualties on people travelling through vulnerable corridors.
Some security sources have described the attackers as suspected mercenaries, although their identities, affiliations and motives have not been independently established.
