Gunmen kill man inside church in Akwa Ibom

Gunmen have shot and killed a 45-year-old man, Udeme Sunday Uko, while he was sleeping with his family in a church in Ikot Oku Usung Village, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

 

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, according to police sources in the state.

 

The wife of the deceased, Mrs Mfon Udeme Sunday, was said to have alerted the Central Youth Chairman of Ukanafun, Mr Godwin Emekan Ben, who in turn reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

 

Upon receiving the information, police detectives visited the scene at the Apostolic Church District Headquarters, where the victim was shot dead.

 

A locally made pistol and an expended cartridge were recovered from the scene.

 

The body of the deceased was deposited at Iniowo Mortuary for autopsy, while a discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
