North West Operation Show No Mercy; Bandits on the Run in Zamfara

By Zagazola Makama

Deep in the forests of Zamfara State, an intense security operation is underway to dismantle the strongholds of some of Nigeria’s most notorious bandit leaders.

Since February 2, security forces, supported by air strikes, have launched a relentless assault on criminal enclaves in the Zurmi/Shinkafi axis, dealing a decisive blow to terrorist networks that have long plagued the region.

One of the latest victories in the campaign is the elimination of the notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Na Faranshi, along with several of his fighters during an aggressive raid in the forests of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara.

Another victory was the clearing of Sani Black’s fortress at Tunga Fulani Hills, a notorious hideout that has served as a strategic base for banditry in the area. Security operatives, backed by the Air Component of the Nigerian Air Force, stormed the location, destroyed the camp, and burned down Sani Black’s house, forcing him to flee. In a follow-up operation, troops advanced into Tunfa and Mashema villages, further dislodging armed groups and pushing them deeper into the forest.

In a symbolic strike against banditry, security forces also returned to the once feared enclave of Bello Turji. The remaining portions of his camp, previously targeted in past offensives, were obliterated in a final sweep to erase his presence from the region. Reports indicate that both Bello Turji and Sani Black are now in disarray, desperately seeking escape routes as the pressure mounts.

A top military intelligence mphasized that the objective is clear: total elimination or unconditional surrender. “They are calling on the devil, but fear has gripped them. All of them are on the run now,” he said. “The Holy Books say there is no peace for the wicked. We are not stopping until the last of them is neutralized or they surrender completely.” he vowed.

The ongoing offensive, dubbed “Operation Show No Mercy,” signals a shift in the government’s approach to tackling banditry in Zamfara and the wider Northwest. With the insurgents’ safe havens being systematically dismantled, security forces have sent a strong message to all armed groups in the region: the era of impunity is over.

For years, bandits have exploited the difficult terrain of northern Zamfara, creating well-
fortified hideouts and launching deadly raids on communities.

However, with the current operation gaining momentum, the tide appears to be turning. As troops tighten their grip and air assets continue precision strikes, the walls are closing in on those who have terrorized innocent civilians.

As the operation intensifies, all eyes remain on the forests of Zamfara. With relentless pressure from security forces, backed by intelligence and air support, the battle against banditry is entering a decisive phase. For those who once thrived in anarchy, the message is clear: their reign of terror is coming to an end.
