Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 28 suspected illegal miners and recovered mining equipment during raids on two mining sites in Niger State.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 9:30 a.m. on November 2, 2026, by troops of 102 Guards Battalion at Kuchiku Community, Taffa Local Government Area.

The sources said troops raided the illegal mining site and apprehended 28 miners.
During the operation, troops recovered five motorcycles, one crusher, 10 pumping machines, four wheelbarrows, 55 shovels, nine hammers and other sundry items.

Following the raid, troops proceeded to another mining site located behind the Federal Government Academy, along the Dikko–Maje road.

At the second location, troops recovered one locally made rifle, two pumping machines, three pipes, one toolbox, one drilling machine, four head pans and other sundry items.

The suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to the FCT Mining Marshals for further investigation and necessary action.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illegal mining and prevent criminal activities associated with unauthorised mining operations in the area.
