One killed, others injured in market clash in Niger

Police in Niger has confirmed the death of a 25-year-old man, Chede Japo, following a violent clash at Kudu Village Market involving Fulani men and residents of Uppo Village in Mokwa Local Government Area.
According to sources, the incident occurred on June 9 at about 4:00 p.m. when eight Fulani men from Fulani Camp, Gbete Village, reportedly engaged three men from Uppo Village in a fight during the market day at Kudu.
The suspects were identified as Suka Alh. Sani, Adamu Mukwake, Mohammed Abubakar, Umaru Usman, Mohammed Garba, Umaru Garba, Usman Garba, and Abubakar Majo.
“During the fight, one of the suspects, Suka Alh. Sani, allegedly stabbed Chede Japo in the neck,” the statement said.
Officers from Mokwa Division visited the scene and rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Mokwa, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His body was photographed and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Two other victims, identified as Shehu Usman and Abubakar (surname unknown), sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The police said investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the fight and bring the culprits to justice.
