Police Inaugurate Violent Crime Response Unit in Lagos, Receive Operational Support

The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against violent crimes and enhance rapid response to security threats across the state.

 

The inauguration, held on Thursday at the unit’s operational base in Ijora Olopa, Oto Road, followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police on the establishment of the specialised unit nationwide.

 

The VCRU is designed to serve as a tactical operational backup team for rapid deployment to high-risk incidents, intelligence-led operations, coordinated enforcement actions and swift response to violent crimes.

 

During the event, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) donated five operational vehicles, 1,200 raincoats and 1,000 pairs of operational boots to support the operations of the newly inaugurated unit.

 

The inauguration was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, senior officers of the command, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, the Ojora of Ijora Kingdom, Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, the Aare Onikoyi of Yorubaland, Aare Tomori Williams, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, Engr. Olalekan Adigun, the President and Founder of the Social Intervention Advocacy Foundation, Dr. Segun Awosanya, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos State Command, Apostle Kehinde Sowemimo, as well as other strategic security stakeholders.

 

The event concluded peacefully without any security incident.
