Police Rescue Man From Mob Attack Over Alleged Motorcycle Theft in Sagamu

Police in Ogun State have rescued a young man from a mob attack after he was allegedly accused of stealing a motorcycle equipped with tracking devices in Sagamu.
The incident occurred at about 8:28 p.m. on Aug. 18 along the Old GRA Road, Sagamu, following a report of a serious traffic gridlock caused by a large crowd blocking the road.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately led a team of detectives to the scene after receiving information that something had gone wrong.
On arrival, the police reportedly found a young man lying in a pool of blood after allegedly being attacked by a mob over accusations that he had snatched a motorcycle fitted with tracking devices from Ijebu-Ode.
The report said some youths had initially attempted to take the suspect to the Sagamu Police Station, but another group reportedly disagreed and chased after them towards Major Thompson and the Old GRA Road.
The victim was allegedly dragged from a motorcycle and beaten with heavy wooden objects, stones and a cutlass, sustaining serious injuries to his head, hands and back.
The mob reportedly attempted to set him ablaze before the arrival of the police.
The identity of the victim was yet to be established as of the time of filing the report.
Police officers immediately evacuated him to Live-Well Hospital, Sagamu, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed that he was still alive and commenced emergency treatment.
The police have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, including efforts to establish the victim’s identity and identify those involved in the mob action.
