Police Neutralise Four Suspected Bandits, Recover Firearm in Benue

The Police Command in Benue has neutralised four suspected armed bandits and recovered a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, ammunition and other exhibits during an intelligence-led operation in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources said the operation was carried out at about 5:00 a.m. on July 2 following credible intelligence on the activities of armed bandits at their hideout in Tse Gaagum, Mbavuur Ward, Logo LGA.
The sources said the operatives came under attack on arrival at the location as the suspects opened fire on the team, prompting the police to respond, resulting in a gun duel.
According to the sources, four of the suspected bandits were neutralised during the exchange of fire, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
The sources said a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, six rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition, mobile phones and suspected criminal charms were recovered from the scene.
The bodies of the deceased suspects were evacuated and deposited at a mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The sources added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
