Police inspector dies from accidental discharge in Kano

Inspector Aminu Ibrahim, serving with the Kano state command has died from an accidental gunshot while on duty in Hotoro area of Kano.
Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 5:40 a.m. when the officer, attached to Hotoro Division, reportedly entered a toilet within the premises of Basnaj Global Resources Limited, Hotoro.
Sources preliminary investigation indicated that Ibrahim accidentally shot himself in the stomach while squatting, with his loaded AK-47 rifle hanging around his neck.
“The rifle, with registration number GT 4177, was recovered cocked and unsafe, alongside an empty shell. Twenty-nine rounds of ammunition were accounted for against the 30 earlier issued to him,” said the sources.
The victim was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty. His corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
