Operatives of the Police Command in Benue have recovered four locally fabricated Beretta-style pistols concealed in a modified container at a motor park in the state.

Police sources said the recovery was made at about 4:00 p.m. on July 2 during a routine patrol at a motor park when officers observed a green Sharon bus with registration number MKD 75 XB that had arrived from Ayingba in Kogi State.

The sources said a passenger seated in the front of the vehicle suddenly alighted and fled on noticing the approaching police officers, abandoning a five-litre plastic container.

According to the sources, officers initially believed the container held engine oil, but a thorough inspection revealed that its base had been cut open and resealed to conceal four locally fabricated English Beretta pistols.

The sources added that efforts were ongoing to identify, trace and arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigations into the origin and intended destination of the firearms had commenced.
