Security operatives kill suspected bandit in Benue gun duel, recover area from attack

Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have killed a suspected bandit during a gun battle with armed criminals who attacked farmers in Tse Anyineku community, Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

 

Zagazola learnt that the  incident occurred on Thursday following a distress call received at about 11:05 a.m. by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ukum Division.

 

According to sources, bandits had invaded the area, attacking farmers in their fields, prompting a swift response from police patrol teams.

 

“On arrival at the scene, the bandits opened fire on the police operatives. The patrol teams responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee into the Shetile forest,”  said the sources.

 

One of the bandits, later identified by local residents as Terhile Ashiwa, a male from Ucha Mbatyu in Ukum, was found critically injured after the exchange of gunfire.

 

He was rushed to the General Hospital, Zaki-Biam, where he was confirmed dead. His remains have been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

 

Patrols and tactical teams have intensified operations in the area to track down the fleeing bandits and prevent further attacks.
