A joint security team comprising military, police and intelligence personnel has conducted a fighting patrol in parts of Sokoto State, forcing suspected terrorists to flee from one of the targeted communities.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 9:15 a.m. on June 4 by troops of the 8 Division Garrison in collaboration with personnel of CIB VII, the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and Sokoto State Community Guards.

According to the sources, the joint patrol was conducted in Kurawa Village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area, following intelligence reports on the presence of suspected terrorist elements in the area.

The sources said the suspects fled on sighting the advancing security personnel, thereby preventing any confrontation.

Following the operation in Kurawa, the joint security team extended the patrol to Dangulbi community and surrounding areas to deny criminal elements freedom of movement.

“No terrorist activity was observed during the patrol of Dangulbi, while normal activities were ongoing in the area,” the sources said.

They added that the operation formed part of sustained efforts by security agencies to dominate vulnerable communities, deter criminal activities and reassure residents of their safety.

The sources noted that troops and other security personnel would continue aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal elements safe havens within the state.
