Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist kingpin during an intelligence-led operation at Shinkafi Weekly Market in Zamfara State.

Security sources said the troops of the 8 Division Garrison acted on credible intelligence at about 12:44 p.m. on June 4 indicating that a wanted terrorist suspect identified as Kachalla Halilu had been sighted at the market.

According to the sources, the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and successfully apprehended the suspect without incident.

Items recovered from the suspect included a motorcycle, a mobile phone, a cap and livestock medication.

“The troops responded promptly to the intelligence report and successfully arrested the suspect during the operation,” the sources said.

They added that the suspect and the recovered items had been handed over to military intelligence personnel for further investigation and necessary action.

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle criminal and terrorist networks operating in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West region.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s level of involvement in criminal activities and to identify possible accomplices.
