One person has been killed in an ambush carried out by suspected bandits

along a rural road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on April 8 along the Dagbam bridge axis on the GOL–HOSS–Bwei village road.

Troops of Sector 6 under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) reportedly responded to distress calls from the area following an attack on civilians by unidentified armed elements.

On arrival, the troops discovered that one civilian had been killed, while two others escaped the attack unhurt.

“The attackers had already fled the scene before troops arrived,” a source said.

The remains of the deceased were evacuated to the General Hospital in Riyom, while troops launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

Security operations have been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
