Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have repelled a militia attack and recovered firearms and ammunition during a follow-up operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 7:35 p.m. on April 8 along the Razat–Kafi Abu road when troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41, engaged armed attackers and forced them to retreat.
Following the engagement, the troops conducted a cordon-and-search operation in Suma Suga Takwok village and surrounding mountainous terrain where the assailants were believed to have fled.
During the operation, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, along with other items.
“The area was thoroughly searched to deny the attackers freedom of movement and further operational capability,” a source said.
Security forces have continued clearance operations in the general area to restore normalcy and prevent further attacks.
