Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled suspected terrorists along a major route linking Katsina and Kano States, recovering the bodies of two police personnel in the process.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on April 8 when troops of 17 Brigade responded to intelligence on armed terrorists mounting a roadblock along the Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu axis, a border corridor between the two states.

The troops reportedly advanced to the location and fired probing shots, forcing the assailants to flee towards Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned the roadblock and retreated into nearby areas,” a source said.

During a follow-up exploitation of the scene, the troops discovered the corpses of two personnel of the Nigeria Police, believed to have been killed by the fleeing attackers.

The remains were subsequently evacuated and handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Gidan Mutum Daya, Katsina State.

Security agencies have continued efforts to track the fleeing suspects, while patrols have been intensified along the corridor to prevent further attacks.

The Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu route has witnessed recurring security challenges, with authorities sustaining coordinated operations to safeguard commuters and local communities.
