Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist informant during a targeted operation conducted in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out on June 4 by troops of the 221 Battalion following actionable intelligence on the activities of individuals suspected of supporting terrorist elements within the area.
The sources said the troops conducted a carefully coordinated operation in Kara and Wawa communities, leading to the arrest of a suspect who had reportedly been on the security agencies’ watch list for alleged links to terrorist activities.
According to the military, the suspect is believed to have served as an informant for terrorist elements, providing information capable of aiding their movements and operations.
The operation formed part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts aimed at identifying and dismantling support networks that enable terrorist groups to operate within communities.
Military authorities noted that disrupting such networks remains critical to ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-banditry operations across the country, as informants often play key roles in facilitating attacks, movement of fighters and concealment of criminal activities.
The apprehended suspect is currently in military custody and is assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.
Security agencies have continued to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering and targeted operations against individuals suspected of collaborating with terrorist and criminal groups in order to strengthen security and safeguard local communities.
