Troops of 222 Battalion have foiled an attempted improvised explosive device (IED) attack and neutralised suspected terrorists along the Maiduguri–Konduga–Kawuri road in Borno State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on April 2 when an ambush team, positioned along the main supply route, sighted a group of suspected terrorists attempting to plant an IED.
According to the sources, the troops swiftly closed in on the suspects and engaged them with a rocket-propelled grenade, which triggered an explosion that neutralised members of the group.
The sources noted that the suspects were believed to be an IED-laying party targeting the busy route.
During a follow-up exploitation of the scene, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles.
They added that further detailed search of the area did not yield additional significant items.
The Maiduguri–Konduga–Kawuri axis remains a critical supply route, with troops maintaining heightened surveillance to prevent attacks.
Security sources said troops’ morale and operational efficiency remained high, while monitoring and clearance operations were ongoing.
