Troops Foil Terrorist Attack in Niger, Neutralize Dozens
Troops of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday neutralised scores of bandits who attempted to a coordinated attack on Warari, a community in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.
The troops successfully repelled the coordinated terrorist attack after over four hours confrontation, sources in the area said.
Eyewitnesses and local sources disclosed that a significant number of the attackers were killed in the intense gun battle.
Some of the terrorists, in a desperate attempt to flee on motorcycles, ran into each other and were gunned down by the troops.
According to residents, the assailants were the same group responsible for recent attacks in the area and were attempting a repeat of their violent campaign. However, their efforts were thwarted by the swift and forceful response of the military.
Although the exact number of casualties could not be independently verified, multiple sources suggested that the death toll among the bandits is substantial.
Official figures are expected to be released by the Nigerian Army and relevant government authorities in due course.
Local residents trooped out after the operation lining up the streets hailing the gallant troops as they return to their base.
They praised the gallantry and resilience of the soldiers involved, describing their actions as brave and commendable. The residents urged the military to maintain the momentum in safeguarding communities across the region.
