Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised a suspected terrorist scout during a night ambush operation near Malari village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military sources said the operation followed intelligence reports indicating a terrorist mass-up around Malari village, prompting the deployment of an ambush team from the 73 Battalion.
According to the sources, troops positioned along a route leading to the village observed a suspected terrorist scout approaching their location at about 10:15 p.m. on June 6.
The sources said the suspect was challenged and ordered to stop but allegedly continued advancing toward the troops despite repeated warnings.
“The individual ignored the halt order and continued approaching the troops’ position, necessitating engagement by the ambush team,” a military source said.
The suspect was subsequently neutralised, while troops maintained dominance of the area to prevent any further threat.
The operation formed part of ongoing intelligence-led counterterrorism efforts aimed at disrupting insurgent movements and preventing attacks within the North-East theatre.
Military authorities said troops remained vigilant and committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist elements across the region.
